Tamil Nadu government formation: Deputy CM proposal on the table? 'TVK in discussion with AIADMK MLAs at camp in Puducherry'

New Delhi: The Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is reportedly in talks with a section of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMKLawmakers mulled over a possible power-sharing arrangement in Tamil Nadu on Thursday as the political battle over government formation intensified. The development comes as 28 AIADMK MLAs were shifted to a private resort in Puducherry.The MLAs staying at the resort in Poorankuppam are supporters of veteran AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam. Their transfer has fueled speculation that sections within the AIADMK may consider extending support to Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay in the ongoing government formation exercise, ANI reported citing sources.Follow Live Updates in Tamil NaduThey claimed that a possible power-sharing formula was also being discussed, under which CV Shanmugam could be offered the post of Deputy Chief Minister along with key ministerial portfolios. Former Tamil Nadu minister and TVK candidate KA Sengottaiyan is said to be involved in the talks.However, the AIADMK leadership is divided on the issue itself. Party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami did not agree to the proposal to support the TV, creating differences among various sections of the party.At the same time, leaders including CV Shanmugam and OS Maniyan are believed to be in favor of supporting TV in exchange for bigger posts in a possible coalition government. Sources, quoted by ANI, also indicated that some senior leaders have advised TVK to explore legal options, including approaching the Supreme Court or High Court over the government formation process. Others are said to have suggested the possibility of fresh elections if the deadlock continues.TVK, despite emerging as a major force in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, is short of a majority of 5 MLAs. Vijay already has the support of five Congress MLAs, but still needs the support of five more MLAs to cross the halfway mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
