Both Wei and Li commanded the vital rocket force of the People’s Liberation Army. This force was created in 2015 under Xi’s military reforms. Li was selected by Xi himself for this biggest post of the Defense Department.

Wei commanded this rocket force from its formation till 2017 and later also became the Defense Minister.

After Lee was removed from the post, many senior officers of this force were also removed and allegations of corruption were made against them.

Since coming to power in 2012, President Xi has launched a major campaign against corruption, under which more than one million officials, including several generals, have been punished.
