New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs celebrated its first anniversary on Thursday Operation SindoorAsserts that India has given “befitting reply” to Pakistan for sponsoring cross-border terrorism Pahalgam terror attack.Speaking during a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the world has recognized the April 2025 Pahalgam attack and reiterated India’s right to defend itself against terrorism.“Today, we are celebrating the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor. The whole world saw the Pehelgam terror attack for what it was. We gave a befitting reply to Pakistan for its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism,” Jaiswal said.He added that “international terrorism has long been used by Pakistan as a tool of state policy” and asserted that India would continue to strengthen the global fight against terrorism. “In India we have the right to defend ourselves against terrorism. We will continue to work to strengthen the global fight against terrorism”, Jaiswal said.
MEA reiterates stand in favor of Indus Water Treaty
Jaiswal reiterated India’s position on the Indus Water Treaty, saying the pact is stalled because of Pakistan’s support for terrorism.“Our position on the Indus Water Treaty is consistent. The IWT remains suspended in response to Pakistan’s sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably renounce its support for cross-border terrorism,” he said.
Operation Sindoor started after the Pahalgam attack
Operation Sindur was launched in response to the Pahelgam terror attack on 7 May 2025 in which 26 people were killed. As part of the operation, Indian Armed Forces Attacks on terrorist launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.Indian forces targeted nine terrorist launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen, killing more than 100 terrorists during the operation.Earlier today, Lt Gen Rajeev Ghai said the operation showed that “self-reliance is not just a slogan, it is indeed a force multiplier,” highlighting the role of indigenous defense systems and coordinated multi-agency efforts.He said the operation achieved its objectives through “calibrated shots and sharp shocks” that disrupted the enemy’s command and control system without drawing India into a prolonged conflict.Ghai also emphasized that Operation Sindur is “not the end” but “the beginning” of India’s continued fight against terrorism.
