New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Sunday sharpened her attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the Women’s Reservation Bill, alleging that the party opposes greater political representation for women and worked against the passage of the 33 per cent quota bill.Addressing a rally in Bankura, Bengal, Prime Minister Modi said, “Bengali women wanted 33% reservation. Modi ensured it… but the TMC did not want more Bengali girls to become MLAs and MPs,” he said, adding that the party in collusion with the Congress had “conspired” to block the law and called it “a reflection of a state in the jungle”.
He also said that BJP’s core political identity rests on the empowerment and protection of women. Taking a further jab at the bill’s failure in the Lok Sabha, he added that the opposition had “once again betrayed the sisters of Bengal” by stalling the bill in Parliament.Further, targeting the state government on governance and welfare delivery, the Prime Minister said the BJP “prioritises the safety of sisters, honor of mothers and sisters and your prosperity.” He alleged that women in Bengal were not getting benefits compared to BJP-ruled states and promised that the change in government would ensure stronger welfare delivery, including free ration assistance to poor women.With more promising incentives like support for pregnant women, the Prime Minister urged people to vote for the BJP. “If the BJP government is formed in Bengal, women will get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. If someone in a woman’s family suffers from kidney disease? They will also get free dialysis in a government hospital. It will not cost a single rupee,” he said.“Bengali sisters will get Rs 36,000 per year. Pregnant women will get Rs 21,000. The central government will provide Rs 5,000 for the education of the sisters’ daughters after they have children. 50,000 will be given… Under the Mudra scheme, women will get Rs 20 lakh for self-employment. He praised the crowd, adding that “this atmosphere… also symbolizes anger against the brutal government,” claiming that public support for the BJP is expanding across the state.Stepping up her political onslaught, the Prime Minister also alleged that the TMC harbored hostility towards tribal women and girls and cited the election of President Draupadi Murmur as an example of the BJP’s commitment to empowering marginalized communities. He said rival parties had opposed his rise, adding that he was now representing India on the world stage.
