NIA arrests Kolkata man in Pakistan-linked espionage and terror case | India News
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Pakistan-backed spy for allegedly passing confidential, security-related information to Pakistani intelligence officers as part of an anti-India terror conspiracy. Zafar Riaz@Rizvi, a resident of Kolkata, had a look out circular issued against him and was also in the process of declaring him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) under various sections of the Indian Justice Code, the Official Secrets Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act when he was arrested. Zafar is married to a Pakistani national and his children are also Pakistani nationals. Jafar, who was convicted in the espionage case, had been traveling between India and Pakistan since 2005. NIA investigation in case RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI revealed that he was contacted and cultivated by Pakistani intelligence during one such visit to carry out espionage activities in India in lieu of financial lure and promise of Pakistani citizenship. To facilitate other espionage and terror operatives, the accused provided one-time passwords (OTP) of Indian Telecom mobile numbers to a Pakistani intelligence officer to activate WhatsApp accounts. The accused PIO used these accounts to secretly communicate with Motiram Jat, who is also an accused in the instant case. Jat was also employed to pass secret security-related information to intelligence officers.Investigation of the case is continuing
