Holding Urine side effects: पेशाब रोकने की आदत है खतरनाक, किडनी और ब्लैडर को हो सकता है बड़ा नुकसान – Holding Urine side effects For Long term and short term Causes Bladder Infection tvism

Be it a busy work schedule, stuck in traffic, in a meeting or doing some work, many times people hold their urine for hours. Although this habit may seem common to you, but according to urologists, doing so can be very dangerous for both men and women and can have a negative impact on your health in the short-long term. It is also very important to know why you should not stop urination for a good and healthy life.

What do doctors say?

Dr. Mangesh Patil, urologist, Saifee Hospital, Mumbai, says that normally the bladder can easily stop urine when it is partially filled. If the bladder remains excessively full for a long time, the pressure on the urinary system increases. In a short time, this can increase the chances of lower abdominal pain, irritation in the urinary tract, urine retention and urinary tract infection. Women are especially more susceptible to infection because bacteria can survive longer in the urinary tract if the urinary tract is not emptied frequently.

While travelling, many people do not like to use public toilets and deliberately avoid urinating for several hours. Dehydration due to this habit leads to formation of uric acid crystals in the urine and can cause irritation in the bladder membranes. Some people have a strong urge to urinate, so they may leak urine or have severe bladder cramps.

Long term side effects?

Long term side effects may be more serious. The muscles of the bladder can become weak and holding urine for a long time can affect the functioning of the bladder. Over time, it may become difficult for the bladder to empty completely, which can lead to urine accumulation. There may be stagnation of urine which may lead to frequent infections and stones in the bladder. Over time, the kidneys can also be affected due to persistent high bladder pressure in susceptible individuals.

Prostate patients, diabetic patients, pregnant women, children and elderly men should be more careful as they are most sensitive to urinary problems.

One should not hold urine for a long time as it is not a healthy habit. To maintain bladder and kidney health, make a habit of drinking adequate amounts of fluids, urinating frequently (every 3-4 hours) and visiting hotels or restaurants with clean toilets.
