The countdown for the country’s biggest medical entrance exam NEET (NEET UG 2026) has started. Lakhs of students are currently engrossed in books, but do you know that not only your studies but also your ‘dress’ can decide your year’s penance? Yes, the security standards of the National Testing Agency (NTA) are so strict that even a small ‘metal pin’ can create trouble for you at the examination centre.
It is often seen that students reach the center fully prepared, but due to not following the dress code, they are stopped at the gate itself. This chaos that occurs at the last moment spoils the mental balance and performance of the students. To avoid any disruption in your examination, read these guidelines carefully.
‘No entry’ on full sleeves
According to NTA rules, the less workmanship there is in the clothes, the easier the entry will be.
What to wear: Wear light colored clothes. Try to wear only half sleeve T-shirt or shirt.
What not to wear: Never make the mistake of wearing clothes with full sleeves. Additionally, clothing that has too many pockets, large buttons, zips or heavy embroidery will be stopped during checking.
Wear slippers instead of shoes
Often students wear sports shoes for style or comfort, which are taken off at the centre. Therefore, shoes with thick soles and sandals with high heels are completely banned. It is safest to wear thin soled slippers or simple sandals.
Even a small ring can prove costly
It is strictly prohibited to carry any kind of metal inside the examination centre. Girls should note that they should not go wearing earrings, necklace, ring, bracelet or nose pin. It is prohibited for boys also to wear bracelets or chains. Even hair clutchers or large rubber bands are removed.
What to carry with admit card
Admit Card: Colored printout with passport size photograph (same as in the form) pasted on it.
passport photo: Carry one extra photograph which will have to be pasted on the attendance sheet.
Valid ID Proof: Carry only the original version of Aadhar Card, PAN Card or Voter ID (photocopy will not suffice).
Keep in mind that you do not need to keep a pen in your pocket. NTA will itself provide a new ‘Black/Blue Ball Point Pen’ to every student in the examination hall. Apart from this, if you feel very thirsty, you can carry a water bottle which is completely ‘transparent’.
Be careful if you wear a bracelet or hijab
NTA has also issued clear instructions for students who wear certain items as a mark of their religious beliefs or cultural identity (like Kada or Kirpan for Sikh candidates, or hijab etc.).
It is mandatory for these candidates to reach 2 hours before. If you are going to wear any special ‘custom’ dress or item related to your faith, you will have to report to the center at least 2 hours in advance. This is so that the dignity of the examination is maintained and your thorough frisking can be completed without any haste or inconvenience.
During the examination, if the security personnel suspect that your religious attire or item contains any kind of electronic device or suspicious item, then they have full right to keep it outside the examination hall.
Remember, there will be no arrangement to keep your mobile, bag or any personal belongings at the examination centre. Therefore, do not bring your valuables or extra luggage with you.
