Netflix’s show Lock-Up is continuously in the headlines. Controversies related to contestants are constantly being highlighted in the show. Sometimes in the show, Gaurav Khanna’s wife Akanksha suddenly announced divorce, while sometimes Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja was seen talking about domestic disputes. Now there has been a controversy over Ram Kapoor’s statement of cheating his partner in the show, on which even the co-contestants have got angry.
These controversies are raising questions on Netflix whether Netflix is taking the help of these controversies to gather audience.
What is Ram Kapoor’s controversial statement?
Ram Kapoor recently said in the show that if there is true love between husband and wife, then the relationship does not end even after cheating. He gave this statement on the question of co-contestant Shreya Kalra, in which she asked, ‘If your partner cheats, will you end the relationship?’ On this Ram said-
You find the connection again. If you love, the relationship never ends. Marriage is a difficult journey. We have to work on the marriage every day. In a marriage of 20-25 years you have to see ups and downs. In bad times, if something accidentally happens to one person, if you cannot live without them and cannot live without your children, then things improve with time. Sometimes this happens by mistake.

Ram Kapoor’s statement enraged co-contestant Akanksha Chamola. He retorted, ‘No, these things do not happen by mistake. You are getting physically intimate with someone, it is a process. You take off your clothes, take off someone else’s clothes and then do that. You can’t call it a mistake.’
Despite Akanksha’s opposition, Ram Kapoor kept justifying his cheating.

Netflix’s show Lock Up is based on controversies
This show is being streamed on Netflix from June 27. The show has been in the headlines since the beginning due to its concept and controversies. In the premiere of the show itself, Akanksha Chamola announced divorce from Gaurav Khanna, which many users called fake. At the same time, controversial contestants of Splitsvilla Akanksha Rawat and Yogesh Rawat have been brought in the show, on whom contestant Shreya Kalra has made objectionable comments.
Both of them had earlier also had a fight over a podcast.
Sunita, who has made headlines of divorce and Govinda’s extra-marital claims, is also a part of the show, who recently talked about the dispute with nephew Krishna Abhishek and Kashmira.

Questions are being raised on the sexuality of contestants
Clips related to the show are continuously going viral on social media, in which contestants are seen raising questions on each other’s sexuality. Influencer Shreya Kalra has recently claimed in front of Sufi Motiwala that Akanksha Chamola is bisexual.

Sufi has also said that co-contestant Varun (Laila) is more gay than her. In this clip, Ram Kapoor was also seen kissing Varun.

Netflix’s strategy in question
Usually in such reality shows, there are fights over food and tasks, but apart from this, controversies and fights are constantly being highlighted in the new reality shows of Netflix. There is no censor on language, abuses and objectionable words in the show. In such a situation, the question is arising that why Netflix, which streams big movies and series from all over the world, needs controversies to survive and garner views in India.
Questions raised on Netflix even after bringing India’s Got Latent 2
Not only Lock Up, but Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent 2 is also being streamed on Netflix, the last season of which was in a lot of controversies.

Many social media users have also expressed objection to such content coming on big OTT platforms like Netflix. These include Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi. Recently he shared a post and said that the objectionable jokes of a controversial person like Samay Raina are now getting the support of platforms like Netflix.

Netflix was late in taking the pulse of Indians – Dheeraj Mishra, Writer
Writer Dheeraj Mishra believes that Netflix was late in catching the pulse of the common Indian audience. In an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar, he said, in the initial phase, the shows of the platform were technically strong and were liked by the audience in the metros, but their connect with the large audience remained limited.
Dheeraj Mishra says that during this time, other OTT platforms brought such shows and films whose stories and characters were closer to the common Indian audience. For this reason he rapidly strengthened his hold.
Netflix’s content vision is not clear – Vivek Sharma, Director
Netflix’s challenges cannot be seen limited to just weak projects. The question is also whether the platform has a clear content vision for the Indian market.
While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, director Vivek Sharma has said that this is the biggest problem. Many times decisions are taken under the influence of relationships, lobbies and established groups rather than creativity. The same banner or production house gets big projects again and again, while new people and new ideas do not get enough opportunities.
According to him, Netflix needs serious introspection. It will have to decide whether it wants to be a platform only for big names or also a platform for new talents and new stories.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan believes that Netflix’s initial positioning also led to its limitations. From the beginning it presented itself as a premium platform. Its price was higher than other OTT platforms, whereas India is a price-sensitive market.
According to Atul Mohan, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar and other platforms were successful in providing more value at a lower price. Especially shows like ‘Panchayat’ reached the audience who saw themselves in those stories.
