New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a picture of her spending time on the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata and taking a boat trip on Friday.In the visuals shared by the Prime Minister, she can be seen sitting on a wooden boat with the camera in hand, with the Vidyasagar Bridge visible in the background.

“For every Bengali, the Ganga occupies a special place. One can say that the Ganga flows through the soul of Bengal. Its divine waters carry the eternal spirit of an entire civilization. This morning in Kolkata, I spent some time on the banks of the Hooghly River, an opportunity to express my gratitude to Mother Ganga,” the Prime Minister said. At Hooghly, he reiterated his commitment to work towards the development of West Bengal and the prosperity of the great Bengali people,” he added.The visit is amid ongoing political activity in the state. On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi addressed a public meeting in Krishnanagar ahead of the next phase of assembly elections. He also visited the Belur Math, where he prayed.Voting for the assembly elections ended at 6 pm on Thursday. According to Election Commission of India data, West Bengal recorded a voter turnout of 91.91% in the first phase, higher than Tamil Nadu’s 84.80%.BJP aims to oust the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal. Calling the high turnout an “overwhelming mandate for change”, PM Modi said May 4, the day of counting, would mark the “expiry” of the TMC’s “15-year-old syndicate system and Maha Jangal Raj” in the state. Chief Minister Mamata BanerjeeHowever, polling trends so far indicate that the TMC is “already in a position to win” with the party winning 125-134 out of 152 constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
