NEW DELHI: The government on Saturday named academics Joram Anya and R Balasubramaniam as new members Policy Commission As part of the thinktank’s restructuring.Prime Minister Narendra Modi A post by X congratulated both academics. “Their rich experience and deep understanding of various issues will greatly strengthen policy formulation. I am confident that their contributions will help drive innovation and growth across all sectors. Wishing them a very fruitful and impactful tenure ahead,” he added.Anya’s addition to the NITI Aayog marks a significant step as it brings in a prominent intellectual voice from Arunachal Pradesh. He is currently an associate professor and member of the Arunachal Pradesh Private Educational Regulatory Commission, and comes with rich experience in teaching, research and public policy engagement, officials said.She is the first woman from the Nishi community to earn a doctorate and the first woman in the Hindi language in the state, making significant contributions to literature, culture and indigenous knowledge systems, they added. He has written and edited numerous research publications as well as many books on Nishi literature and culture.Balasubramaniam, who teaches at Cornell University, is the Human Resources Member of the Capacity Building Commission set up by the government.A qualified physician, Balasubramaniam Swami Vivekananda is the founder of the youth movement and the grassroots research and advocacy movement. Balasubramaniam holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University.Late last month, the government named former chief economic adviser Ashok Lahiri as the new vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. IISER, Bhopal director Govardhan Das, economist KV Raju, AIIMS director M Srinivas and science and technology secretary Abhay Karandikar have been named as new members. Rajeev Gauba will also serve as a full-time member.Lahiri is expected to take over next week and with the new members, the thinktank is expected to provide critical input during the challenges posed by conflicts in West Asia.
