There was a huge fall in the stock market on the last trading day of the week. The Sensex fell 516 points to close at 77,328, while the Nifty fell 150 points to close at 24,176. Nifty Bank fell by 736 points.
Due to this decline, there was a reduction in the valuations of investors and BSE market capitalization decreased by 475 points to Rs 473.46 lakh crore. This means that there was a loss of Rs 1.50 lakh crore in investors’ valuation on Friday.
Talking about BSE top 30 shares, the biggest decline was in SBI shares, which fell by more than 6 percent and closed at 1019. Along with this, shares of HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra fell by about 2 percent. There was a rise in 14 shares, while 16 shares closed in the red.
Due to the huge fall in SBI, the PSU bank sector appeared the weakest. Along with this, oil and gas, metal and private bank sectors also appeared under pressure.
Why did the stock market fall today?
- Amidst the ceasefire, a war-like situation has once again arisen between America and Iran. America has attacked Iranian bases and Iran has targeted American bases. At the same time, it has been said that Hormuz will not be opened, after which the sentiments in the stock market have deteriorated again. There is also news that Iran is now going to collect toll from Hormuz, for which it has also formed an agency.
- The price of crude oil is trading above $100 per barrel, due to which the sentiments in the market have deteriorated.
- A decline has been seen in the rupee against the dollar, which is trading at 94.305.
- A decline has also been seen in Asian and American markets. Apart from this, the quarterly results of some companies have also been bad. Besides, there has also been a decline in large cap stocks.
2,217 shares fell
It is noteworthy that during the trading on Friday, a total of 4,406 shares were traded on BSE, out of which 2,020 shares witnessed an increase, 2,217 shares saw a decline and 169 shares remained unchanged. 219 shares remained at 52-week high and 23 shares remained at 52-week low. Lower circuit was seen in 9 stocks.
