MALDA: The 77-year-old wife of an 85-year-old voter died of a suspected heart attack in a village in Bengal’s north Dinajpur on Monday after their family quarreled with election officials when they went to the home of senior citizens to register their votes.When the news of Tafizan Bibi’s death spread, the local residents were angry TMC Activists briefly detained polling officials in VT Katihar village.As eight-year-old Kalu Sheikh is blind, his family demanded that his disabled daughter stay at home during polling, but the EC team rejected the request, sparking an argument with villagers and TMC workers.Tafizan fell ill suddenly. He was rushed to Raiganj Medical College, where doctors declared him brought dead on suspicion of heart attack.Officials forced Sheikh to vote, their families alleged.At that time the district election officer Vivek Kumar TMC’s Krishna Kalyani alleged that there was a misunderstanding, “The inhumane EC not only deprived one of their vote, but also took the life of another voter.”
