New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee rejected exit poll predictions for the state on Thursday, declaring that Trinamool Congress A “mother, soil, people government” will form.His response came after multiple pollsters released projections indicating a neck-and-neck race between the incumbents TMC and the main opposition party, BJP.
Polling in both phases concluded on April 23 and April 29 with a record voter turnout exceeding 90% across all 294 constituencies. The Chief Minister of Bengal posted a video message on X expressing confidence in his current government. He also said that “TMC will win over 226 seats,” surpassing its previous tally of 215.Earlier, the BJP too had staked a claim to win West Bengal, with Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Thursday expressing confidence that the party is heading for a historic victory in the state. He also said that the NDA would work strongly in other states including Tamil Nadu.Reacting to the exit poll trend, Vijayendra said the party was confident in its central leadership and credited the efforts of its cadres across the country.“We are very confident in the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, our Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah Ji, and National President Nitin Naveen Ji. Due to the hard work of millions of party workers in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party is going to come to power for the first time in the history of the state,” he said.Exit polls on Wednesday indicated a sharply divided verdict for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. While most projections put the BJP ahead, one survey indicated a strong win for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Polls suggest a neck-and-neck contest, with around 145 seats projected for the BJP and the TMC in the 294-member assembly, with the others expected to win around four seats.However, most of the private surveys lean towards the BJP. Chanakya tactics projected BJP at 150-160 seats and TMC at 130-140 seats. Matrix gives BJP 146-161 seats against TMC’s 125-140, while P-MARQ estimates a wider margin with BJP at 150-175 and TMC at 118-138. JVC indicated a close race but still put BJP ahead with 138-159 seats, compared to TMC’s 131-152 seats. Minor parties and others were expected to secure only a few seats across most surveys.In contrast, People’s Pulse emerged as an outlier, projecting a decisive lead for the TMC with 178–187 seats, leaving the BJP with 95–110 seats and others with 2–3 seats.
