The IAF’s Surya Kiran aerobatic team performed an aerobatic flight during the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav at the Somnath temple on Monday.As part of the celebrations, Narendra Modi participated in special Maha Puja, followed by Kumbhavishek and Dhvajarohan ceremonies, consecration rituals and hoisting of the temple flag.Prime Minister Modi on Monday offered prayers at the Somnath temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, as part of the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years since the inauguration of the restored temple by India’s first President Rajendra Prasad.Before entering the temple premises, the Prime Minister paid homage to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during the road show at Somnath.Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a road show en route to the temple, drawing huge crowds of supporters amid heightened security across key areas of the city.Prime Minister Modi is on a visit to Gujarat to attend the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav and inaugurate Sardar Dham in Vadodara, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi said on May 9.Prime Minister Modi shared an op-ed ahead of his proposed visit to the Somnath temple on Friday, May 11, reflecting on the temple’s cultural significance and paying tribute to those who have preserved and restored it over the centuries.In a post on X, Modi said, “Wrote an OpEd on my upcoming visit to Somnath on May 11 and why this day will always be important for the greatness of Somnath and our civilization. Also a tribute to every individual who despite all kinds of challenges has always protected Somnath and restored its glory.”In the op-ed, the Prime Minister noted that the visit will mark 75 years since the inauguration of the restored Somnath temple by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad. PM Modi also referred to the Somnath Swaviman Parva organized earlier this year to commemorate 1,000 years of the first attack on the temple, describing the history of Somnath as a journey from “destruction to renewal” or “from creation to creation”.
