Vck Support Tvk: Tamil Nadu: VCK says support to TVK aimed at preventing President’s rule, won’t affect DMK alliance | India News
New Delhi: Thol Thirumabhavan on Saturday defended his party’s decision to extend unconditional support to the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, saying the move was aimed at ensuring political stability in Tamil Nadu and preventing the possibility of President’s rule in the state.Speaking in Chennai, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief said the party had taken independent decisions while being part of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance.
“We want to support TV for two reasons: the VC will not prevent Vijay from becoming the chief minister, and Tamil Nadu should not come under Governor’s rule,” said Thirumabhavan. He insisted that Tamil Nadu’s political crisis should not be the reason for implementing President’s rule and said the party took the “long-term view” into account before extending support to TV.
VC says ties with DMK remain intact
Thirumabhavan clarified that supporting TV will not affect the VCK’s relationship with the DMK-led alliance.“We are still in alliance with the DMK, taking independent decisions as a political party in times of crisis,” he said.VCK’s announcement comes amid intense political activity after TVK, which emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, fell 10 seats short of its majority mark. The VKK’s support, along with support from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), pushed the TVK’s tally to 120, two above the majority figure of 118.Follow Live Updates: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Announcement Update
