US ने रूसी कच्चा तेल खरीदने की मोहलत बढ़ाई, भारत बोला- खरीदते थे, खरीदते रहेंगे – India keep buying Russian oil regardless of US sanctions waivers ntcppl
India has given a blunt, clear and unambiguous answer to the purchase of crude oil from Russia. A senior Petroleum Ministry official said on Monday that India has been buying Russian oil without considering the relaxation of US sanctions, and India will continue to buy Russian oil based on its needs keeping in mind energy security while considering the commercial factor.
Petroleum Ministry Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma told reporters at a media briefing, “Russia But regarding the American discount, I would like to emphasize that we have already been purchasing from Russia. Before the exemption, during the exemption, and even now. “
Sharma said that India’s raw Oil Purchasing decisions are primarily based on commercial considerations and availability of adequate supplies.
America extended exemption for 30 days
Meanwhile, America has decided to increase the relaxation given in sanctions to buy Russian oil. This deadline of America ended on Saturday. According to Reuters, this decision has been taken after many countries asked for more time to buy Russian oil. Sources have said that America will extend this exemption for 30 more days.
Let us tell you that a temporary US sanctions waiver allowing the sale and delivery of Russian marine crude oil expired on May 16.
The purpose of this general license was to reduce pressure on global energy markets. This was done because the US-Israel war against Iran had caused the biggest interruption in the supply of oil so far. This exemption was first issued by the US Treasury Department in mid-March and was extended in April.
Availability of discount or not is not affected: India
However, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Petroleum Ministry, had already said before America’s decision that India has been buying crude oil from Russia in the past and will continue to buy it in future too.
“Basically, the business sense that we have to buy is what will work here,” he said while speaking to reporters.
He also added that there is no shortage of crude oil supply and adequate quantity of oil has already been arranged through long-term agreements.
He said that whether the discount is given or not, it will not affect the availability.
Relief to India from subsidized Russian crude oil
Subsidized Russian crude has become the main part of India’s oil imports since 2022, when Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine led to strict Western sanctions on Russia and disruption of Russia’s traditional export markets.
India, the world’s third-largest crude importer and consumer, significantly increased purchases of Russian oil to take advantage of low prices, which helped domestic refiners cope with rising global energy costs.
The US and European countries had imposed tough sanctions on Russia for its attack in February 2022, but no sanctions were ever imposed on Russian oil itself.
In recent months, the US imposed sanctions on some Russian companies, including its largest crude oil suppliers Rosneft and Lukoil.
Despite this, Russian oil remained out of the sanctions list. This meant that Russia remained a key supplier to India and procurement was strictly ensured that there was no involvement of any sanctioned sellers or middlemen, no use of sanctioned vessels, and that all financial, insurance and trade channels were fully compliant.
Due to this, there was a slight decrease in purchases last year, but due to relaxation in restrictions, Indian refiners again increased purchases.
