New Delhi: An IAF Mi 17 V5 of the Central Air Command (CAC) was deployed to rescue two stranded children stuck on top of a water tank in Siddharth Nagar. GorakhpurUttar Pradesh. It came after five children climbed into a water tank to record a social media reel and the access ladder gave way, killing one child.“At the request of state government authorities, an IAF Mi 17 V5 of the Central Air Command (CAC) was deployed to rescue two stranded children trapped on top of a water tank at Siddharth Nagar, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The children were trapped at night as the ladder of the water tank collapsed. Once again a show of professionalism of the IAF, rescue missions and still committed to saving lives. Rapid response in times of need,” CAC in IAF X said in a post. It also shared videos of the rescue operation.District Magistrate Sivasharanappa told ANI that three children fell when the structure collapsed, while two others were trapped on top of the tank.“There was an incident when five children climbed a water tank to record a reel, and when the ladder broke, three of them fell from the water tank. One child died, and two others are being treated at the medical college,” he said.He added that rescue operations for stranded children due to rugged terrain and poor road access required coordination between the fire department and the Indian Air Force.“For the rescue operation of the two children on top of the tank, we first called a fire engine from Gorakhpur. Because the ground was very muddy and the road was not properly constructed, we consulted the Air Force officer in Gorakhpur as part of Plan B. They sent a helicopter around 5 am today, and we thank the Prime Minister’s office for rescuing the two children safely. The coordination provided by the Air Force was successful, Ensures speedy operations,” said Sivasharanappa.
