‘UCC rollout, triple talaq ban, end to polygamy’: Amit Shah rolls out BJP’s key promises at Bengal rally | India News
New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday outlined some major political and governance commitments for West Bengal, including a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), ban on triple talaq and its end. polygamy If BJP comes to power in the state.Addressing a rally in Ranaghat, Shah said: “The BJP, when in power, will implement uniform civil code in Bengal, stop polygamy, ban triple talaq.”He said that the BJP government will take several legal and administrative steps after coming to power in the state. The BJP leader promised direct financial assistance and welfare benefits for women and youth, saying the party would provide monthly assistance after forming the government.“The BJP government is going to be formed on May 4. After May, the BJP government will deposit Rs 3,000 per month in the account of every sister and mother in Bengal and send Rs 3,000 per month to the bank account of all unemployed youths. All mothers and sisters will not have to buy any bus tickets, they will travel for free,” Shah said.Shah linked the regime change with law enforcement action, alleged that cattle smuggling networks were active in parts of the state, particularly in Nadia district, and promised a crackdown if the BJP came to power.“After the government is formed in West Bengal, we will form a special squad to stop cow smuggling,” Shah said.At a separate rally in Nadia, Shah highlighted the BJP’s national security record.“Brothers and sisters, since I have come to Nadia, first I want to pay my heartfelt respect to Shaheed Jantu Ali Sheikh. On April 22, in an encounter with Pakistan, he sacrificed his life for the country, and later the Prime Minister conducted Operation Sindoor,” Shah said.He further attacked previous governments by claiming a soft approach to terrorism and contrasting it with the BJP’s record in power.“Brothers and sisters, when Mamata and Congress were in power, terrorists were served biryani. And after Pahalgam attack, we wiped out terrorists by entering Pakistan.”Shah emphasized that the current government has taken a strong stand against terrorism and extremism.“Prime Minister Modi has freed this country from Naxalism, and now bring the BJP government to power – we will handpick and drive out the infiltrators one by one,” he said, adding that illegal infiltrators would be identified and removed if the party came to power in Bengal. He also accused the opposition of protecting illegal immigration networks and reiterated that tough measures would be taken after the election.Shah also claimed that the BJP has already made electoral gains in the initial phase of polling and urged voters to freely participate in the remaining phase.“BJP coming to power in the state will end ‘Gunda Raj’ and ‘Syndicate Raj’ in West Bengal,” he said. The home minister also said that if elected, the party would ensure strong law and order and greater administrative transparency.Polling for the first phase of assembly elections ended at 6 pm on Thursday, with West Bengal recording a remarkable 91.78 percent voter turnout, according to the Election Commission.
