Actor Sehban Azim, who was seen in popular TV shows like Bepannah, Dil Mil Gaye and Tujhse Hai Raabta, got injured in the lathicharge. The actor had reached Jantar Mantar on July 20 in support of Cockroach Janata Party, where while saving two girls from lathi charge, the actor got lathicharge on his hands and many parts of his body. The actor has claimed that the police were using batons deliberately. In an interview to Mid Day, actor Sehban said, “That scene was very heart-breaking. I had gone to participate in the protest in support of the students. Two of my female friends who had come from Mumbai were also present there. While trying to save them from the lathicharge, I got injured. My hand is swollen. The police also lathicharged me several times on my hands, legs and other parts of the body.” The actor further said, “We could not even reach inside Jantar Mantar, where the actual protest was taking place. The police had barricaded all around. They surrounded us in the middle and then started lathi charge. They did not care about whom they were lathicharged on. There were children, there were women, but no one was spared.” The actor further alleged that the police action seemed completely planned and its aim was to forcefully remove the crowd from there. He said, “I felt that this lathi charge was deliberate. They just wanted us all to leave from there. My heart hurts for the children who had come to participate in this protest. Many students had traveled for several days by trains and buses. Sehban claimed that many people participating in the protest were injured. He said, “Policemen brutally beat the protesters. Many people were bleeding from their bodies. These young students stood there and endured all this beating.” The friends who joined the protest with Sehban Azim have also posted their videos, in which they are continuously raising slogans of Inquilab Zindabad. In the post, her friend has written that the actor was trying to save his two friends at the time of lathi charge. Sehban Azim was seen in these TV shows – Sehban Azim, Dil Mil Gaye, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Humsafars, He has been a part of shows like Thapki Pyaar Ki and Tujhse Hai Raabta. Sehban was last seen in Spy Bahu protest. On July 20, senior actresses like Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj participated in the protest. During an interview, Shabana told that she had trouble breathing, but she was taken to a nearby building and after some time, she joined the protest. When the other artists did not join, Shabana said that Let’s talk about the absence of big businessmen. By asking such questions, unnecessary controversy is created. What happened with the students is very wrong. I appeal to the authorities to listen to the demands of the students. I have been called ‘anti-national’ many times too. I can’t even talk about it openly. Kangana said on Monday that the public is trying to put pressure on the issues. Kangana said that they are creating ruckus at Jantar Mantar and the government cannot be forced to decide who should be kept in office and who should be removed. BJP MP Hema Malini also opposed this protest in a conversation with ANI. He said that such a movement is not going to achieve anything. Hema Malini said that this issue should be resolved through talks. However, she refused to comment on the demand for resignation of the Education Minister. Apart from this, Kunal Kamra and Swara Bhaskar have also joined the campaign through social media. Apart from this, Vishal Dadlani, Dia Mirza and film maker Onir have also written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Have also expressed solidarity towards the protesters.
