The Center has provided ‘Y’ category armed security cover to senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar with security deployed from May 19, an official said in New Delhi on Wednesday. Following the Intelligence Bureau’s security assessment report, the Home Ministry extended security cover to the CISF — a central armed police force primarily tasked with protecting critical infrastructure and providing security to high-risk individuals — to Dastidar. Under the ‘Y’ category, the security guard is usually assigned a team of armed personnel for round-the-clock security. Sources said the decision to provide security to Dastidar, who represents the Barasat Centre, was taken after reviewing his threat profile.
