TDP & JDS join other NDA allies in backing bills | India News
New Delhi: NDA allies offered full support to three bills during the Lok Sabha debate on Friday.South ally TDP’s floor leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devrayalu said his party would support bills to pave the way for restrictions and reservations for women based on “guarantees” given by Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi.He referred to Shah’s comments in the House on Thursday that there would be a 50% proportional increase in the number of seats in each state, with LS seats expected to increase from 25 to 38 in Andhra Pradesh.Extending support, JDS’s HD Kumaraswamy termed DMK’s opposition to the Women’s Bill amendment as “cowardice”, saying claims that southern states stand to lose are misleading. He added that the Congress had lost touch with the grassroots and was not ready for the changes the bills would bring.Other allies also supported the bills. Union minister and JDU leader Rajeev Ranjan Singh said the amendment was not rushed, noting that it took three years after the government did the groundwork. Union Minister Anupriya Patel said the bills provided an opportunity to make history and urged all members to support them.
