Addressing German parliamentarians in Berlin, Rajnath Singh “Self-reliant India is not merely a program of procurement, it is an invitation to co-creation, co-development and co-innovation,” said Tuesday, referring to the industry there.On arrival in Germany, Rajnath was received with military honors at the Berlin airport. During his flight from Munich to Berlin he was flown in a special German Air Force plane, escorted by fighter jets. Rajnath is scheduled to hold talks with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius and other senior leaders during his three-day visit.Addressing the German Parliamentary Standing Committee, Rajnath made a strong pitch for increased cooperation between the two countries’ defense industrial ecosystems. He stressed that “the world today is facing new security threats, and technological change has made the situation very complicated and complex. A new approach with the will to adapt to the changing environment is the need of the hour”.Noting that India is witnessing an unprecedented transformation in the defense sector, he said that enhanced partnership with German industry could bring significant mutual benefits. “We recognize the established strengths of Germany’s leading industrial enterprises, as well as the strength and dynamism of German Mittelstands (small and medium-sized companies) renowned for advanced and emerging technologies. In India too, our start-ups and enterprising private companies are rapidly expanding and complementing the capabilities of our larger and established defense enterprises. This is an area where India and Germany naturally complement each other, and our partnership can deepen,” he said.To address modern-day global challenges, Rajnath stressed the need for coordinated responses and trusted strategic partnerships. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi And the German Chancellor, Mr. Friedrich Marz emphasized on this strategic partnership We also see a clear convergence of vision at the EU level, reflected in the increasing pace of engagement with India, including the India-EU defense and strategic partnership,” he said.He said that India and Germany are not only strategic partners but also consequential voices in shaping the global discourse of today. “We are a democracy underpinned by shared values and a dynamic economy driven by stability, innovation, and a strong industrial spirit. As legislators and esteemed committee members, your guidance, voice, and support can strengthen and enrich the future trajectory of our defense and strategic cooperation.”“Rajnath pointed out that the current geopolitical instability can no longer be seen as a regional issue. Their consequences are global in scope, he said, describing them not as local disruptions, but with far-reaching implications for energy security, food security, and global economic stability, with serious developments, in addition to enormous human costs.
