Pre-arrest bail for Vadra in Haryana land deal-linked laundering probe

Special judge Sushant Changotra of the Rouse Avenue court granted relief to co-accused Kewal Singh Virk on a bail bond of Rs 50,000 each.The case relates to a 3.5 acre parcel in Shikohpur village in Gurgaon. According to the ED, a company linked to Vadra bought the land from Omkareshwar Properties for Rs 7.5 crore in February 2008 and later sold it to DLF for Rs 58 crore. The ED claimed that the transaction generated proceeds of crime and formed part of a larger alleged money laundering operation stemming from a 2018 FIR for alleged irregularities in the deal.The court said Bhadra cooperated with investigators and appeared whenever he was summoned, making remand in custody unnecessary. It states that the accused may face ordinary trial without being sent to judicial custody.— Kaushik Saha
