New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Dr Donald Trump Expect to meet in France next month G7 summit.Trump will visit France despite tensions between Washington and its allies over issues ranging from Iran to tariffs, the White House news agency told AFP.The summit, to be held in Evian-les-Bains in southeastern France from June 15 to 17, is expected to cover topics including artificial intelligence, trade, critical minerals, migration and global security.Discussions are likely to focus on reducing regulatory barriers and increasing energy production, particularly fossil fuels. Iran is expected to feature prominently in the broader dialogue amid continued tensions in West Asia.Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO allies – including the UK, France, Germany and Italy – for failing to provide adequate support to Washington during the ongoing conflict with Iran.Strategic strains also prompted a shift in discourse from key European capitals. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently reiterated the importance of the trans-Atlantic relationship, describing the US as Germany’s “most important partner in the North Atlantic alliance”, days after criticizing Trump’s handling of the conflict in West Asia.Trump’s presence at the summit for the Group of Seven top economies meeting in the French Alpine resort town was not previously confirmed.French President Emmanuel Macron, meanwhile, extended the invitation during his visit to India in February Prime Minister Modi. Although India is not a permanent member of the G7, it regularly participates in the annual summit as a special invitee.PM Modi and Trump last met in Washington last February after returning to the Oval Office.In the high-profile meeting held against the backdrop of tariff escalation, Trump described Modi as a “great friend”, while the two leaders pledged to double India-US trade to $500 billion by 2030.The meeting, expected in France amid rising global geopolitical tensions, will be closely watched for trade talks, energy cooperation and signals of greater strategic alignment between New Delhi and Washington.
