New Delhi: RSSNational propaganda chief Sunil Ambekar said on Friday that the Sangh was not strong enough at the time of partition and claimed that “otherwise the country would not have been divided”.Ambekar made these comments while speaking at the screening of the documentary “Delhi Mein Sangh Yatra” presented by the Indraprastha Vishwasambad Kendra in Delhi. Referring to the period between 1942 and 1947, he said the RSS expanded rapidly across Delhi and undivided Punjab, with large numbers of people joining the organisation, but its strength was still limited.He said that during partition, RSS volunteers worked to protect Hindus in areas that became part of Pakistan and stayed there “until the last person reached safety”. Ambekar said countless volunteers sacrificed themselves during the violence and rehabilitation efforts, while several camps were set up for displaced people. He also said that in the first fortnight of August 1947, RSS chief MS Golwalkar, referred to as “Sri Guruji” within the organization, was in Karachi directing relief and protection of volunteers amid the unrest.Ambekar said that RSS founder KB Hedgewar did not establish the organization for political purposes but to create “cultural awakening” and strengthen society. “If Dr Hedgewar wanted to do politics, he could have formed a political party. The aim was to mobilize society and build national confidence,” he said.He added that RSS activities in Delhi began during Hedgewar’s lifetime and were closely linked to the organization’s 100-year history.RSS Delhi publicist Ritesh Agarwal said the documentary traces the organization’s journey in Delhi from its inception to its expansion through historical records, memoirs, interviews and archival material on Partition and post-independence developments.
