Parliament adjourned sine die; Lok Sabha productivity at 93%, says Om Birla | India News
New Delhi: Parliament was adjourned on Saturday with an extended three-day session. Budget session It ended on a disappointing note for the government as its ambitious legislative push for the rollout of women’s reservation from 2029 and a 50% increase in Lok Sabha seats was defeated by a united opposition. The session concluded with the performance of ‘Bande Mataram’ in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which included playing all six stanzas of the first national anthem that should be sung or played at government functions, public events and school assemblies. Little business was transacted in the Rajya Sabha during the three days except for the swearing-in of newly elected MPs as the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill. In the closing speech, the speaker said Om Birla 31 meetings were held during the session lasting about 151 hours and 42 minutes. House productivity stands at 93%. The traditional tea given by him was well received by opposition MPs.
