New Delhi: Murders in India to drop by 2.4% in 2024, says latest NCRB data Overall, 58.8 lakh cognizable crimes were recorded in the country in 2024, which is 6% less than in 2023, out of which 62.4 lakh cases were reported. Crime against women fell by 1.5% to 4.41 lakh cases in 2024 as against 4.48 lakh the previous year. The crime rate per lakh female population has also come down from 66.2 to 64.6. Recorded crime rate per lakh population decreased from 448.3 in 2023 to 418.9 in 2024. Crimes against the state increased by 6.6% with 5,194 cases registered in 2024 compared to 4,873 cases in 2023, the data showed. 4,053 cases were registered by state anti-corruption bureaus in 2024 as compared to 4,069 cases in 2023, showing a marginal decline of 0.4%. Economic crimes increased by 4.6% in 2024 to 2.14 lakh cases compared to 2.04 lakh cases in 2023.
