Mithun Chakraborty is the first actor whose film Disco Dancer became the first Indian film to earn more than Rs 100 crore. Mithun was a senior, while Shakti Kapoor took admission after him. The first meeting between the two did not go well and in the name of ragging, Mithun pulled Shakti’s hair and scolded her. What happened was that Shakti Kapoor was leaving his hometown Delhi and going to FTII, Pune. In the train, he met a person who was also going to take admission there. But there was time for the course to start, so the man was going to Mumbai for his sister’s wedding. On the way, both of them became good friends and Shakti also went to Mumbai with that boy. In Mumbai, he came to know that she was married to Pramod Khanna, brother of the then famous actor Vinod Khanna. Many Bollywood celebrities including Rakesh Roshan were present at the wedding. Shakti Kapoor, standing among the stars, also started considering himself a star. After the wedding was over, Rakesh Roshan and Vinod Khanna’s brother Pramod dropped Shakti and his friend to the hostel. At the gate he saw a man wearing dhoti. Feeling exhausted, Shakti Kapoor started crying loudly and said, I want to go back home, I don’t want to become an actor. After some time, Mithun felt pity and saved them from everyone and took them to a room. Story – 2 Mithun was troubled by his dark complexion, had complained to Shabana Azmi’s mother. Shabana Azmi used to be Mithun Chakraborty’s senior while studying in FTII. He and Shabana became close friends and Mithun used to visit their house many times. He often used to tell everyone that he was very troubled due to his complexion not being fair. One day Shabana took him home. That day, while talking to Shabana’s mother Shaukat Azmi, Mithun Chakraborty complained about her dark complexion. Story – 3 Mithun used to sleep in the tank while hiding from the guards because he had no place to stay. After completing his studies from Pune, Mithun Chakraborty came to Mumbai in search of work. Here they neither had any place to live nor money to pay rent. In such a situation, he used to sleep hidden in the tanks built on the roofs of some buildings for a long time, so that the guards would not chase him away after seeing him. While narrating this anecdote, Mithun, who reached the Dance Plus 5 reality show, said, “I never stopped dreaming and always faced the reality. When I came to Mumbai, I had no place to stay and those were the days when I used to hide on the water tanks on the roofs of buildings and sleep there so that the security guards could not see me and throw me out from there. Story – 4 Roommates threw me out of the house, the bathroom was clean. While living in Mumbai, a friend gave him a place in his room. Mithun used to live on the footpath for several days. In such a situation, the owner of the gym had to come and clean it. Mithun Chakraborty’s son Mimoh told this in an interview. Mithun told in the Dance India Dance Show that he never wanted his biopic to be made, because after seeing it, Mrinal Sen started his acting career with the 1976 film Mrigaya. Actually, when Mithun was studying in FTII, director Mrinal Sen was looking for a lean, dark-skinned boy who looked somewhat like a Santal tribal. One day, K. Mahajan saw Mithun Chakraborty standing in the corridor of the college. He liked Mithun’s personality so much that he decided to cast Mithun in the film, but after completing his studies, he called Mithun in Kolkata and offered him the film, so he did not have the money to go to Delhi. Mithun’s real name was Gaurang, however, when he became Helen’s spotboy, the film Mrigya was released on 6 June 1976, for which Mithun was to receive a ticket. At that time, Rekha was going to Delhi for the shooting of a film, so she made him her spot boy and booked him for the interview. She said to the person who had come for the interview, ‘Feed me hungry’ many times. Even after the first film ‘Mrigaya’, he had to struggle. After receiving the National Award, he was unable to speak due to hunger. Later, Mithun Chakraborty made a place in the industry with films like Suraksha, Pateetha, Takdeer Ka Badshah. Rishi Kapoor’s face was bleeding due to an accident in 1978. This film was going to be a big break in Mithun’s career. One day, director Sikandar Khanna asked Mithun if he knew how to drive a car. In such a situation, he told him that he was driving the car properly. According to the script, Mithun had to stop the car at high speed so that he could sit in the car. As soon as the action was called, he started driving the car at high speed, due to which the car hit Rishi Kapoor at high speed. After realizing his mistake, Rishi Kapoor made it clear that he had lied to him and after the break, Mithun got stardom from the film Disco Dancer. Mithun got overnight stardom from this film. When Rajkumar asked the director about the casting of him, Mithun Chakraborty got a small role in the film Goliyon Ki Baadshah on the very first day of shooting. Seeing him, he said, “Why did you bring a struggling actor for this?” He went straight to Rajkumar and said, “I am the struggling actor.” I know that this is not a child’s play.
