Mamata cites ‘load-shedding’, warns against ‘EVM capture’ | India News
Kolkata: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee The Trinamool on Sunday asked the workers to be vigilant against “EVM capture” and said that after the first phase of the state assembly polls, there were complaints of power cut from the EVM strongroom.“Look at the EC! It is your job to ensure that EVMs are not caught. Why is there so much loadshedding? This is clearly an indication of malicious intent. I request you not to fall into their trap,” the chief minister said at his rally in Bhavanipur, from where he is contesting. The Bengal chief minister said he was leading by 4,000 votes in Nandigram in the 2021 assembly elections before power went to the counting centre. The trend reversed after supplies resumed and he eventually lost to BJP’s Subhendu Adhikari by less than 2,000 votes. Banerjee challenged the result in the Calcutta High Court and the matter is still pending.“Everyone has to cast their vote. They will try to rig the EVM. If one machine malfunctions, come back to vote again. Don’t vote in the machine that malfunctioned earlier. Every EVM must be checked thoroughly. Central forces will try to capture the EVMs; they are influenced by the EC. Let women do whatever they want till the days of EVMs are over.” Banerjee said this at her rally on Sunday.Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Minister said, “HM uses foul language. He is afraid. He thinks he will win by spreading fear. Remember we know how to counter if you try to instill fear.”
