Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat home and secretariat under lockdown, orders to secure records

Calcutta: Trinamool Pradhan Mamata BanerjeeHis residence in Kolkata’s Kalighat and his office in Nabanna were placed under an unprecedented security lockdown on Monday, even as Bengal Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala directed all department heads not to remove, damage or copy any official documents without permission.Much before the final results of the assembly polls were announced, central paramilitary forces surrounded Navanna and stepped up vigil outside the chief minister’s Kalighat residence, as well as at his house. Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday afternoon.The deployment came amid celebrations by BJP supporters in parts of Kalighat and scattered reports of tension in the state as trends showed the Trinamool Congress facing a rout.“All Departmental Secretaries and Heads of Offices are requested that no important paper or any file be removed/damaged or otherwise removed from the office. No unauthorized copying/scanning shall be permitted. All files/important papers/communications shall be properly accounted for. Departmental Heads and Departmental Secretaries shall personally ensure that this letter follows the orders of the Principal Secretary and Chief Secretary. StatedRapid response teams were deployed at the head offices of key government departments.The Election Commission said the measures are purely preventive.
