Kerala Election Results 2026: Full list of winners and losers; Congress-led UDF set for historic comeback | India News
Across Kerala, early trends for the 2026 assembly elections point to a decisive shift in power, with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) on the move and poised for a commanding return to government. The alliance is leading in more than 100 of the 140 assembly seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark, while the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is far behind, struggling to hold even 40 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) remains a marginal player, leading in just a few seats. The trends point to strong anti-incumbency against the LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who initially retreated to his Dharmadam stronghold before regaining leadership in the next round. Several senior ministers have also faced setbacks, challenging the ruling front. On the other hand, key UDF leaders gave a strong performance, with Ramesh Chennithala winning a convincing victory in Haripad. The coalition’s gains appear to have been driven by consolidation of minority votes, welfare-focused campaigns and greater voter pressure for change after two consecutive LDF terms. If these trends hold, Kerala is set to witness a return to its traditional pattern of alternating governments, with the UDF heading for a wider mandate and the LDF facing a significant electoral setback.
