‘It is possible’: Rajnath says India may ‘play its role’ in bringing peace in West Asia | India News
New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday hinted that New Delhi can play its role in bringing peace to West Asia amid the ongoing crisis between Iran and the US.Asked whether India has any role in the West Asian crisis, Rajnath said, “It is possible that tomorrow there may be a time when India will play its role in it and achieve success.”
He added, “The Prime Minister has appealed to both sides to stop the war. Our Prime Minister has a very balanced view on diplomacy.”This comes during the second round of peace talks between Iran and the United States scheduled in Pakistan due to disagreements over Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week extension with Iran amid frantic efforts to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table.Hours after announcing he “expected bombing,” the US president said he would extend the ceasefire until Iranian negotiators offer peace.“Iran’s government has seriously collapsed, not unexpectedly, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, we have been asked to continue our attack on Iran until their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified resolution,” he wrote on his Truth Social Platform.Iran, meanwhile, dismissed the ceasefire extension as “a ploy to buy time for a surprise attack” and added that “the time has come for Iran to take the initiative”.“The losing side cannot dictate terms,” Mahdi Mohammadi wrote on social media. “Continuation of the blockade must be met with a military response.”
