Guwahati, May 10 (ANI): BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sharma on Sunday met Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan in Guwahati to demand formation of a new government. Union Minister JP Nadda, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, AGP President Atul Bora and other National Democratic Alliance leaders were also present. New Delhi: Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya has been formally appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam under Article 164(1) of the Constitution, paving the way for the formation of the next BJP-led government in the state.According to an official notification issued by Assam’s Parliamentary Affairs Department, Sarma will take oath as Chief Minister at 11.40 am on Tuesday, May 12 at the Veterinary College grounds in Khanapara, Guwahati.“In exercise of the powers conferred on him under clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma as the Chief Minister of Assam,” the notification said.The order was issued on May 10 from Dispur and signed by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota.The swearing-in ceremony is expected to formally inaugurate the new government in the northeastern state following the electoral success of the BJP-led alliance.Earlier in the day, Sarma met the Governor and demanded to form the next government.The official notification confirming his appointment was later circulated by the Parliamentary Affairs Department.Sarma, one of the BJP’s key leaders in the Northeast, is set to continue as chief minister after leading the party in the state.
