New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has shared the outcome of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the summit yielded eight key outcomes aimed at deepening India’s strategic, economic and technological engagement with the Nordic countries, with a strong focus on green growth, innovation, defense and climate cooperation.The summit, attended by leaders from the Nordic region, sought to expand cooperation across sectors from clean energy and Arctic research to talent mobility and maritime security.
Indo-Nordic relations have evolved into a strategic green partnership
India and the Nordic countries have upgraded their relationship to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, signaling a shift towards long-term cooperation in future-focused sectors.The partnership is expected to deepen cooperation in blue economy, circular economy and digital infrastructure, as well as expand joint work on climate action, energy security, water management and education.
Trade push associated with India-EU and EFTA agreements
The summit emphasized strengthening economic integration through the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.Deeper trade and investment linkages can improve supply chain resilience, accelerate sustainable growth and create new business opportunities, the leaders said. EFTA countries are expected to invest USD 100 billion in India, potentially boosting manufacturing, innovation and employment.
Nordic innovation to strengthen India’s climate goals
Climate cooperation emerged as a key pillar of the summit, with both sides agreeing to transform Nordic clean-tech climate innovation into measurable climate solutions for India.The partnership aims to support the expansion of renewable energy, low-emission technologies and sustainable lifestyle initiatives under the India-led Mission Life, which helps India balance economic growth with environmental commitments.
Arctic cooperation expands India’s polar footprint
India and the Nordic countries have agreed to increase cooperation in the Arctic region, reflecting New Delhi’s growing interest in polar research and climate science.Joint ventures in environmental studies, climate monitoring and polar research are expected to improve scientific cooperation and help India better understand the global impact of Arctic change.
Joint STEM and 6G research driving future technologies
The summit prioritized cooperation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Defense industry cooperation has been identified as another important growth area. India has highlighted investment opportunities for Nordic companies with 100 percent FDI provision in the Indian Defense Industrial Corridor.The initiative could strengthen defense manufacturing partnerships, technology transfer and joint production in the sector.
