EC orders strict EVM checks, warns of action and repoll over tampering in Bengal | India News
Election Commission Directed the Presiding Officers of all booths, especially in West Bengal, to check and ensure that all candidate buttons are clearly visible on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and that there is no tape, glue or any other material including colour, ink, perfume or chemicals which may compromise the secrecy of the vote.Cases where the above discrepancies are found on candidate buttons may fall under tampering or tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which is an electoral offence.EC officials said on Tuesday that the commission would not hesitate to take criminal action or order re-election in such cases.Wherever tampering is noticed, the Presiding Officer will immediately inform the Sector Officer or Returning Officer.
