Disbursed compensation for plant accident to victim families, says Vedanta Power | India News
New Delhi: Vedanta Power on Monday said it has completed compensation to the families of those killed and injured in a boiler-related incident at its power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Shakti district earlier this month.In a statement, the company said it has provided a financial assistance of Rs 35 lakh to the families of the victims, and distributed Rs 15 lakh to those injured in the accident. “Compensation has already been released to all 35 affected individuals and families,” it said.Vedanta Power said it is also exploring employment opportunities for family members of the deceased and will help their children with education up to class 12. Skill development opportunities will be increased through its training centers to increase employment of dependents.Vedanta Power CEO Rajinder Singh Ahuja said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we are committed to support them in every possible way.”On April 14, an explosion occurred in a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam at Unit-1 of the company’s plant in Singayatarai, killing 25 people and injuring several seriously. The unit is being operated and maintained by NTPC GE Power Services Limited (NGSL), a joint venture between NTPC and GE, the company said. Chhattisgarh Police has registered an FIR against Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Aggarwal and others in this regard.
