Did govt block Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram reel with Vijay? What ministry said | India News
New Delhi: The Electronics and Information Technology Ministry on Monday denied the Congress’ claims that Instagram had “blocked” Rahul Gandhi’s reel and photos with newly appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, alleging that the ministry was actively restricting the voice of opposition leaders in the country.Sources told news agency ANI that the ministry had nothing to do with the move and the platform’s internal system had wrongly flagged the post for blocking.
“Some social media handles wrongly claimed that some of LoP’s posts were restricted by MeitY. It has been clarified that MeitY had nothing to do with this action; it had wrongly flagged the posts for blocking due to the platform’s own internal system, which has now been restored to the platform,” sources said.It came after former Youth Congress national campaign chief Srivatsa claimed that the reel had garnered 12 million views in less than an hour, while the viral photo post reached 46 million people.“Instagram has blocked LoP Rahul Gandhi’s reel and photo post at today’s swearing-in ceremony featuring him and Thalapathy Vijay. The viral reel has garnered 12 million views in less than an hour and the viral photo post has already reached 46 million people,” Srivats said.“Meta did not mention any reason why his account became accessible. The ‘story’ is because of MeitY rules. Rahul Gandhi’s social media accounts have been suppressed for a long time. His X Reach, YouTube views and Instagram followers have all been suppressed. This is how opposition leaders in India are silenced,” he added. This came as Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Rahul also attended the event and later shared several pictures with the actor-politician on social media. The Congress, with five MLAs, supported Vijay’s TV, which emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.Earlier, Tamil Nadu witnessed one of the most dramatic political changes in its modern history as actor-politician C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the state’s 13th Chief Minister, ending decades of political dominance by the DMK and AIADMK and ushering in what he called “a new era of realism, secularism and justice”.As thousands of supporters erupted into cheers, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay and his cabinet colleagues. In his emotional first speech as chief minister, Vijay repeatedly highlighted his humble background and rejected the larger-than-life political image around him. “My beloved people, my own family… I am no divine messenger or prophet. I am just a normal person living a normal life. Never cheat with false promises. I will only promise what is possible,” he said to deafening applause.Vijay gave a special mention to his Gen Z supporters as he thanked the young voters and children who passionately campaigned for him, saying, “A special word of thanks to the little friends who call me ‘Vijay Ma’.” All this happened because of them. I will repay my debt of gratitude to you by working for your future. Be confident — this Vijay Maa will always be there for you.”The line immediately became one of the show’s biggest highlights online.Calling his victory “a new beginning”, the TVK founder declared, “Let us all together give Tamil Nadu a fresh new government. This is the beginning of a new era of real, secular and social justice.”
