This is India’s third gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Earlier, Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) and Sharmila Dhaka (women’s shot put F57) had won gold for India. With these three medals, India’s total number of medals has become 15 (3 gold, 9 silver, 3 bronze). India is at eighth place in the medal table.

Boxers confirmed 10 medals

Indian boxers also performed brilliantly and secured at least 10 medals by making it to the semi-finals. Sakshi Choudhary (51 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), Sachin Siwach (60 kg), Ankush Panghal (80 kg), Narendra Barwal (+90 kg) and world champion Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg) entered the last four.

Apart from these, Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), Priya Ghanghas (60 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg) and Jadumani Singh (55 kg) have also reached the semi-finals.

Disappointment in weightlifting and swimming

India faced disappointment in weightlifting. Sanjana could not complete the competition in the women’s 77 kg category and was declared DNF (Do Not Finish). And in swimming also Sajan Prakash and Anish S. Gowda could not make it to the finals of men’s 200 meter freestyle. Sajan finished fifth in his heat and 20th overall. Anish finished 18th overall with a time of 1:51.64 seconds.
