Srinagar: Ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, security has been beefed up across the Kashmir Valley. Officials said vigilance has been increased and precautionary measures have been strengthened, but efforts are underway to avoid unnecessary public alarm.On April 22, 2025, terrorists struck the picturesque Baisaran meadows, also known as “Mini Switzerland”, about 7 km from Pahalgam town in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, killing 25 tourists and a local horseman. Following this, around 44 tourist destinations across J&K were closed as a precaution. Most have reopened, but authorities have closed Baisaran to visitors. In Pahalgam, Chandanwari is also closed. Officials said there is no clear timeline for the resumption of circulation.Senior officials reviewed the security situation in various areas on Monday. South Kashmir DIG Javed Iqbal Mattu visited Pulwama district and presided over a “comprehensive crime and security review meeting”.“During the meeting, a detailed review of the overall crime situation, investigation of cases, NDPS issues and preventive measures was taken. The DIG reviewed the existing security situation with special focus on counter-terrorism efforts and strengthening the anti-terrorist grid in the district,” a police spokesperson said, adding that there has been emphasis on security, coordination between agencies. Strengthening the intelligence network to thwart any attempt by the anti-nationals.Officials were directed to maintain a high level of alertness and ensure prompt and effective response to any security challenge, the spokesperson said. Mattu also visited Police District Awantipora and presided over a security review meeting.In Srinagar, SSP Dr GV Sundeep Chakraborty presided over a security review meeting. “The overall crime situation in district Srinagar was reviewed in detail. Threadbare discussions were held to enhance the quality of investigation and prosecution of cases registered under the UAP Act, NDPS Act, and general crime sections, focusing on improving the conviction rate,” the police spokesperson said.
