Karnataka Cong govt allots public-use plots for party offices | India News
BENGALURU: Two dozen civic amenities sites across several urban local bodies in Karnataka were allotted to the Congress Bhavan Trust to build party offices at the district and taluk levels, data from the Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development showed. Deputy CM DK Sivakumar, also the state Congress chief, has set a target of constructing 100 Congress buildings across the state and plans to lay foundation stones of some of them on the day he completes six years as KPCC president later this year. Of the 24 sites, the Municipal Administration Department has allotted 12 plots worth more than Rs 5 crore, while the Urban Development Department has allotted another 12 plots worth more than Rs 12 crore. The BJP criticized the move, alleging that the Congress acquired properties worth Rs 40 crore for Rs 2 crore in 31 locations, including these 24 sites. But Sivakumar defended the allocation, saying the Congress was using government land. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Chalavadi Narayanaswamy has issued a warning that the BJP will start protests if the government fails to withdraw the allocation.
