New Delhi: In response to Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir warning India against any “future misadventure”, Indian Navy Chief-designate Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan said that “adventurism does not come from India anywhere or anytime” and asserted that the country is ready to deal with and suppress any “adventurer” from across the border.Vice Admiral Swaminathan, who will take over the Navy after the retirement of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on May 31, said, “…India is always in a reactive kind of mode. Such actions (disasters) come from across the border. People can say what they want, but as far as we are concerned, India will be ready.”At a defense function organized by the Bramha Research Foundation in Mumbai on Monday, the vice admiral pointed out that the country has suffered from terrorism over the years, and Operation Sindoor Terrorist camps and terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack were specifically targeted. The country cannot accept terrorist acts, especially when they come from foreign soil, he said, adding that Operation Sindoor continues.In the current global situation, the Vice Admiral said, the global security environment is undergoing profound changes. Outlining that about 95% of India’s trade by volume and about 70% by value continues to transit by sea, he said India’s competitiveness depends on safe roads. “The Indian Ocean is, and always has been, India’s domain. Today, the Indo-Pacific has emerged as a defining theater of 21st century geopolitics. The Indian Ocean is becoming more competitive, more watched and more rewarding. The Indian Navy is the custodian of this domain,” he said.On defense opportunities for MSMEs, he said, “I think it takes some time for MSMEs to find momentum. Building defense-grade equipment in a country is not something you do quickly; you have to do it slowly, methodically… (Our) specifications are very strict. You don’t get anything off the shelf. So everything takes the most time, and some things need to be developed in the world. For the technology to mature.“
