A case of land scam worth about Rs 400 crore has come to light in Kanpur Dehat of UP. Police have registered an FIR in this case against many people including former ADM, company representative and bank officials. It is alleged that the land taken in the name of setting up a thermal power plant was misused.
According to the agency, the matter is of Bhoganipur area, where in the year 2011, agricultural land of Gram Sabha and farmers was allotted for setting up a thermal power plant. According to the administration, 2332 acres of land in seven villages was allotted to two companies – Himawat Power and Lanco Anpara Power. Under the agreement, the companies had to prepare the plant and start power generation within three years. But even after 15 years, no work was done there. The land remained vacant.

When investigation was done, it came to light that the companies had mortgaged this land to banks without taking permission from the government. Through this, a loan of about Rs 1500 crore was taken. The banks whose names have been revealed include IDBI Bank, Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank. The administration says that neither the thermal plant was installed nor the bank loan was repaid. Later the banks were preparing to auction this land, but the district administration stopped it.
This entire matter was investigated on the instructions of District Magistrate Kapil Singh. The investigation revealed the collusion of company officials, bank employees and the then ADM (Land Acquisition) OK Singh. On the basis of investigation, an FIR was registered at Moosanagar police station on the complaint of Bhognipur Tehsildar Priya Singh.
Officials say that the banks tried to auction the land illegally, after which the district administration stopped the process on the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath in this matter. The statement said that this land has now been restored in government records.
According to circle rate, its estimated price is more than Rs 300 crore. However, its price in the market is much higher than this. Officials said that an FIR has been registered against the then ADM, officials of both the companies, banks and concerned administrative officials on charges of forgery and criminal conspiracy.
