New Delhi: Newly appointed West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday chaired his first cabinet meeting and took six decisions, ending the deadlock between the state and the Center that had led to the postponement or outright rejection of several key initiatives.After the Cabinet meeting, Adhikari said that the new journey of good governance, security and double-engine government in West Bengal will lead to the same development path followed in other BJP-ruled states across the country. He reiterated the ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and the government’s commitment to the principle of “For the people, by the people, of the people”.“We have taken six decisions in the cabinet. We are committed to the welfare of the families of 321 martyrs who laid down their lives as BJP supporters,” Shuvendu said.Here are the decisions taken by the Bengal governmentBSF will get land to fence the border within 45 daysPrioritizing border security, the government approved the process of handing over the required land to the BSF. The Chief Secretary and the Department of Land and Land Reforms have been directed to complete the process within 45 days.Adhikari said, “We have started the process of handing over the land to the BSF to secure the border. The land will be handed over within 45 days.”All central scheme rolloutThe West Bengal government has also decided to formally join the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The Health Secretary and Advisors in the Chief Minister’s Office have been directed to finalize the necessary agreements with the Union Health Ministry as soon as possible.The process of active implementation of major central government schemes in the state including Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishak Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri SHRI, Vishwa Karma Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ujjwala Yojana has started. District Magistrates have been directed to expedite all applications to the Union Ministries concerned.IAS, IPS officers cleared for central trainingAs part of the administrative reforms, state IAS officers will now participate in the central government’s training program in line with the practice followed in other states, the notification said. The government has decided to fully align West Bengal with the provisions of the Indian Justice Code.“West Bengal government officials will participate in the training program conducted by the central government. The previous government did not allow the officials to participate in the scheme,” he said.The age limit for government jobs has been increasedAdhikari also announced that the Cabinet has decided to increase the upper age limit for applying for government jobs by five years to improve the employment opportunities of educated youth.Conduct census as directed by the CentreThe Chief Minister said that the previous government had failed to implement the directive of the Union Home Ministry dated June 16, 2025 regarding the census process. The current government has immediately implemented the pending administrative circular.“A letter was sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 16, 2025 to conduct the census as directed by the Government of India. The previous government was sitting on the file; we are starting the census in West Bengal,” Adhikari said.“This government does not act on pride, it acts on principle.” Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of “Fear, Trust”, he said the new government is committed to ensuring security, confidence and development for the people of West Bengal,” he added.Reiterating the government’s commitment to national security, the chief minister assured that all the land required by the BSF would be provided. He said the previous government had ignored the directives of the central government and courts to protect illegal intruders.Legal Aid for Victims of Political StruggleTalking about political violence, Adhikari said the government was ready to investigate cases involving the death of party workers during the “political struggle” if the families sought legal action.“Regarding the 321 people who lost their lives in our struggle: If their families want, the government will start an investigation,” he added.
