DY Chandrachud to mediate in Kapurs’ dispute | India News
New Delhi: Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has been roped in to resolve a high-profile property dispute between late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor’s mother Rani Kapoor and his wife Priya Kapoor, tied to his Rs 30,000 crore estate, for the family trust. As they expressed their willingness to mediate, the Supreme Court on Thursday appointed the former CJI as a mediator and asked the parties to reach an amicable settlement. “It is a family dispute. Let it be confined to the family only. It should not be a source of entertainment,” a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuiyan told them. The court asked the parties to appear before former CJI Chandrachud for mediation. “We will wait for a preliminary report from the mediator and then proceed further with the matter,” it said and posted the matter for August. The court, on April 27, sought a response from Priya Kapoor and others in a case filed by Sanjay Kapoor’s mother seeking directions to declare the family trust “void”. He alleged in his petition that the trust formed in October 2017 was a product of “forged, fabricated and forged” documents. Legal proceedings over the control of the estate and assets are pending before the Delhi High Court and the petition before the apex court has sought a stay on divestment of all the assets of the trust.
