Kharagpur: BJP candidate from Kharagpur Sadar Assembly Constituency Dilip Ghosh Expressing confidence in the party’s victory in the West Bengal elections, he gave this verdict Trinamool CongressIts “departure is confirmed”. Ghosh also said that the deployment of central forces in Booth assured people to exercise their right to vote without fear of TMC goons. “If the booths come under the control of the central forces, people will go to vote without a worry because here the police, along with goons, scare people,” he said. Dilip Ghosh is looking to repeat his 2016 performance in the Kharagpur Sadar Assembly constituency as he faces Trinamool Congress’s Pradeep Sarkar, who himself is looking to bounce back from a 2021 defeat. With an estimated total population of 4 lakh with around 1.9 lakh voters, Kharagpur Sadar is hoping to find a candidate who can help solve the persistent problems of pollution, water crisis and youth unemployment.Constituency Constituency 224 consists of Kharagpur Railway Settlement, Kharagpur I Community Development Block and Kharagpur Municipality. People are hoping to get a leader who can ensure the continuity of development work in the area. The constituency, being a railway junction, is home to a diverse population from across the country, including Telugu, Marathi and Tamil speakers, with the local Bengalis almost outnumbering them. Dilip Ghosh, who lost his 2024 Lok Sabha bid, is eyeing a re-entry hoping to repeat his 2016 performance, where he managed to break the streak of 7-time Congress MLA Gyan Singh Sohanpal. Ghosh quit the MLA seat after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections After a by-election, it was All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate Pradeep Sarkar who managed to win against BJP’s Prem Chandra Jha. However, the victory lasted only until 2021, when BJP’s Hiramoy Chatterjee managed to wrest the seat from the party. Chattopadhyay is now contesting from Shyampur constituency. Congress has also nominated Papia Chakraborty. The upcoming elections follow the 2021 battle, where the TMC won 213 seats. However, the BJP’s rise from a minor player to 77 seats in the last cycle has set the stage for the current high-stakes conflict. West Bengal is slated for two phases of assembly elections on April 23 and 29, with the results due on May 4.
