Nanda Devi reached Vadina port in Gujarat on Tuesday
New Delhi: Six Indian-flagged ships carrying nearly 3 lakh tonnes of LPG are currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, the shipping ministry said on Tuesday. A second Indian ship, Nanda Devi, arrived at Kandla port’s Vadina facility on Tuesday morning with 46,500 tonnes of LPG. At present, there are 22 Indian vessels in the strait, including six LPG vessels, one LNG tanker, four vessels with crude oil, one chemical and commodity cargo, three container vessels and two bulk carriers. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, said unloading is underway from LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi.The shipping ministry said all central government-owned ports are closely monitoring vessel movements and cargo operations and providing necessary support including additional storage space. VO has provided around 90,000 square meters for Chidambaranar port for transshipment containers.Sinha said the number of perishable containers at Jawaharlal Nehru Port has been reduced from around 2,000 to around 1,000.He explained that some containers returned to the domestic market and some sailed to ports such as Salalah in Oman and Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates.
