DU dismisses Rahul’s allegation that it uses interviews to eliminate students | India News
New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has rejected Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that it uses interviews to weed out students. In a post on X late on Friday, it said: “Delhi University primarily admits students based on CUET scores, and the standard admissions process does not mandate interviews for most undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.” “If the leader of the opposition talks about recruitment (eg faculty posts), the university has recruited thousands of teachers in all departments in the recent past. We strongly object to such comments, as they create an unsupportive atmosphere in the university. This was in response to comments by Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleging that DU weeds out students on the basis of caste.“I went to Delhi University. Interviews are a way of excluding students. They ask what is your caste and then you fail the interview,” Gandhi said on Friday while speaking at an event in Lucknow to mark the birth anniversary of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram.Targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Congress leader added, “Take out the list of RSS. Who are their propagandists and seniors in the organization, you will not find an OBC, a Dalit, an Adivasis among them. It is completely against the Constitution.” This sparked further controversy with some professors of DU, including members of the Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC), Academic and Executive Council, stating that public records showed that candidates were declared “Not Found Suitable (NFS)” after interviews despite advertising a large number of teaching posts under Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Castes and Other Categories (ca) in several departments of the university.
