At the DNPA Conclave 2026, founder of the Communication Foundation Humble Nair shares insights on artificial intelligence, business models and the like the future In the publishing industry, stakeholders are urged to adapt to technological changes rather than resist them.Talking about AI platforms and their commercial interest, Nair said, “Whoever comes up with an AI model is interested in subscriptions. The fact of the matter is that when the India-Pak match was being played, you could watch chatgpt and Google Their primary interest in advertising is subscription. So, I will take whatever they say with a grain of salt.”Highlighting the scale of disruption ahead, he said, “50% of what Indian IT is doing will be done by AI tools.” However, he added that this change will also expand opportunities, noting that corporate technology spending is expected to increase by 8 – 14% depending on the industry. “The challenge facing Indian IT is whether you are part of an evolving solution where demand is high or you are stuck in the past,” he said.Speaking to the publishing industry, Nayar stressed on a change in mindset. “The publishing industry should look at technology as an opportunity and not as a challenge. Now the question is – how to look at this technology? You must understand that this technology is automating tasks, not jobs. And there is a difference between automating tasks and jobs. The work you were doing before – editing, writing, some of these will be done more efficiently by (AI) agents in the way you express your views.“He urged industry professionals to move up the value chain in line with the capabilities of AI.Nair’s discussion topics sent a clear message that while AI will transform workflows, those who adapt, innovate and move up the value chain will be positioned to thrive in the new digital economy.
