A big news has come out for 45 lakh central government employees and 60 lakh pensioners of the country. The work of preparing the report under the 8th Pay Commission is going on at a fast pace, the Commission has now started work at the ground level, visiting different states and meeting employee unions and associations, so that they can thoroughly discuss their demands and proposals under the 8th Pay Commission.

According to media reports, the Eighth Pay Commission completed its first face-to-face meeting with employee organizations of Uttarakhand on Friday. After this, the Commission will hold a big meeting in Delhi between 28th and 30th April. Also, in the month of May, the Commission’s team will meet with other organizations of Pune and Maharashtra and take their feedback.

What is the demand regarding fitment factor?
Under the 8th Pay Commission, the Drafting Committee of the Joint Forum of Employees Organizations (NC-JCM) has placed a big demand before the Central Government regarding the fitment factor. There has been a demand to increase the fitment factor to 3.833. If this demand is accepted, there can be a huge increase in the basic salary of the employees.

5 unit family
One change is regarding a 5 unit family, because till now the allowance was decided considering a 3 unit family. But now the demand of the union is being made considering a family of 5 units. Along with this, it has been proposed to base the calculation of dearness allowance on the average of 12 months. Apart from this, there is also a proposal to merge some scale pay.

What is the demand regarding basic salary?
The Pay Commission is reviewing not only the basic salary but also the Transport Allowance (TA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and other service conditions. The Staff Commission says that these allowances also need improvement. Along with this, a proposal has also been made to increase the basic pay. The Commission has proposed to increase the minimum basic pay from Rs 18,000 to Rs 69,000.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
In January 2025, the government had constituted the commission, which has to submit its report in 18 months. Currently the window for feedback is open till 30th April. After this the report will be submitted to the government, then a decision will be taken on the fitment factor.
