89 people died due to thunderstorm in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: At least 89 people were killed after a powerful thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and strong winds swept across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction across several districts, according to an official state damage report.The worst-hit districts include Prayagraj, where 21 died, Sant Ravidas Nagar, 14, Fatehpur, 11, and Mirzapur, 10. Several other districts, including Unnao, Badaun, Bareilly and Pratapgarh, reported casualties due to uprooted trees, damaged houses and collapsed walls.A report prepared by Uttar Pradesh authorities said 53 people were injured in the storm-related incident, and 114 animals died in the extreme weather event. Damage to houses and property was reported from several districts.According to officials, most of the deaths occurred due to wall collapses, falling trees and lightning during intense dust storms and heavy rains in the state between 8 am and 11.30 am on Wednesday.D India Meteorological Department Amid changing weather conditions associated with western depression, warnings for thunder and lightning have been issued in parts of North India.The local administration is assessing the damage and providing assistance to the affected families.
